Inspiring The Next Generation
When I was at school we did not have the internet. If you wanted to look something up you went to the library and looked in a book or two.
So when considering what I wanted to be when I grew up it was based on either things I was aware of (I really wanted to be a vet, but was told my maths was too bad) or things that came out of a computer program where we answered multiple choice questions and it spat out a list of possible choices. I know I studied that list long and hard but I do not remember what was on there now.
I do not remember getting to really speak to anyone, and the only talk I remember was from the RAF, and while flying would have been amazing I imagine my maths would have let me down again and I did not really like the idea of killing people.
Basically I had no idea, so it is no surprise really I ended up in administration. The fact I have managed to get all the way to UX researcher now amazes me every time I think of it.
So when I saw on the local Facebook group a request from a local secondary school for people working in STEM to make videos for the students about what they do, I just had to do it. I want to inspire them and open their eyes to see a world that is hidden to them right now.
So I made my short video and I sent it in. If it just inspires one of them into a world they did not even know existed, then I will be happy. Of course I will not know but that is not the point.
Be the change you want to see.
